Second, technology will kill the anonymous ad. Blockchain IDs, verified “trust scores,” and app-based booking systems are already being tested in Toronto and Vancouver. Regina will adopt them slowly – we’re always two years behind – but they’ll come. Imagine an app like Uber, but for escorts. You see ratings, health check badges, real reviews. Scams plummet. Safety improves. The catch? Surveillance. The app knows everything. And some people don’t want a digital trail of their sex life. So there will be a parallel underground – cash-only, no phones, very old-school. That underground might become even more dangerous because only outlaws will use it.
Third – and this is my own prediction – the “loneliness economy” will merge with sexual commerce. We’re already seeing “cuddle therapists” and “professional girlfriends” in other cities. Regina will get them too. Private escorts will increasingly offer non-sexual services: conversation, cooking together, attending a Roughriders game as your “date.” Why? Because the demand isn’t just for orgasms. It’s for presence. And presence can be packaged and sold, just like everything else.
Will that be better? I don’t know. But I know the current system is broken. Too many lonely people. Too many scams. Too much shame. Maybe the future is brighter. Or maybe it’s just more expensive. Either way, I’ll be here, writing about it, probably still blushing when I say “sexologist.”
